B.Arch. Semester V Study Tour To Panjim, Goa

22 nd to the 27 th of June 2026

The students of B.Arch. Semester V of Avani Institute of Design undertook a Study Tour to Panjim, Goa, from the 22 nd to the 27 th of June 2026. It focused on understanding the city through its contrasting urban conditions. Fontainhas was selected for its heritage character, while CBD, developed largely on reclaimed land, offered a contrasting contemporary urban condition. The creek and Mandovi River edges connected these areas, introducing distinct ecological, touristic and public-space conditions at the same time. The primary objective was to understand Panjim through its historical, spatial, social, ecological and infrastructural layers and to examine different forms and degrees of publicness in the city while the secondary objective was to study how people, activities and user groups shape public spaces and also to inculcate skills of on field observation, documentation and analysis. The students then visited the National Institute of Water Sports and the Houses of Goa Museum for architectural case studies. These visits were followed by interactions with Ar. Ruturaj Parikh of Studio Matter and Prof. Vishvesh Kandolkar, PhD, Goa College of Architecture.

Overall, it was a ‘multi-fold’ experience for the students.
